Shield Daily Devotional

Day 88

We are looking at Principle 8 today: Recovering from defeat is our decision. We must walk with an attitude of "I may have lost the battle, but we (God and I) will win the war." We must rise up in the face of defeat and heartache and go on with God.

You see it doesn't matter if I am the only one obeying God at home, at work or with my friends. I am never alone because He and His Word are with me. I must do the right thing before God regardless of what others do. This is one of the many reasons why reading the Word is so important. How will you know what God wants if you don't know what He is saying to you.

Oh, to make the church understand the importance of Bible reading and prayer. The Christian walk is not difficult in understanding the duty; it is in the obeying. People allow themselves to be side tracked from their spiritual responsibilities and then they wonder why things have not gone well or that there is constant defeat. Do you know what is the most important thing for you to do today? It is to spend time with God and in His Word.

So what are you going to do about it? Go back to Joshua 1:8 "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." The Word in the mouth leads to obedience which leads to prosperity and to good success. The Spurgeon Devotional Commentary says of this verse: "Before the Lord obedience is prosperity, and transgression is a root of bitterness. In order to practical obedience, however, there must be a delight in the Lord's law. Those who forget to meditate soon cease to obey, in fact their heart has never been truly in accord with the divine statutes."

Today, don't forget to overcome any defeat by staying in the Word of God. You will be glad you did.
