Shield Daily Devotional

Day 87

You have to make a choice regarding defeat. You can choose to accept defeat and place your residence there and live. Or, you can choose to overcome defeat by placing your trust in God (who is still God in times of your defeat). God doesn't change who He is just because you have difficult circumstances. The real question is what you are going to do when defeat enters your domain.

Adversities are set backs but they don't have to be permanent. Look at Mark 6:5 "And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them." Jesus is in His own home town. The problem is they see Him as a carpenter's son. He has no rabbinical training (or so they think) so who is He to talk about such weighty matters as the scribes and Pharisees. He doesn't have the training or the pedigree to tell them such things. Now this looks like defeat for Jesus; but is it? No; He simply moves on and does the Father's business (spreading the Good News) somewhere else. Jesus is not slowed or hampered by the apparent set back. It does not alter His mission or call from God.

Today you can choose to be about your Father's business and overcome defeat or you can wallow in the deep mire of the "poor Me's." Be like Jesus today and if defeat comes, don't sit in it, put your foot on top of it and move on to somewhere else and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ!
