Day 89

Today we begin a self examination of your level of commitment to the cause of Jesus Christ. In 2 Corinthians 13:5, Paul writes "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" The word "examine" means "to try or to prove in a good sense." This means that you are to test yourself, your actions and your speech by God's Holy Word.

How often are you to do this. Paul's wording is in the present imperative active. By present tense, it means that it is ongoing and continuing. By imperative, it means that it is a command and not an option. By active, it means that you are doing the action to some one or some thing. This may be sound confusing but it really isn't. Paul is telling us to examine not our inner person but what is outside of you, i.e. what you do. Your actions do speak louder than words as the old adage goes. Paul wants you to place your actions and speech continually under the microscope of self examination.

If you are obedient today, what will you find in your examination? Will you find the fruit of the Holy Spirit when you are squeezed? Or will something ooze out that is ugly and shameful? It is time for the church of Jesus Christ to rise up and let our actions witness the world around us. The world needs our spoken Word, but it also needs to see the Living Word (Jesus) inside us. Today, let us examine and start walking for Jesus!
