Shield Daily Devotional

Day 85

It is so very vital to your Christian walk that you are in God's Word daily. If you choose to fill yourself with something other than God's Holy Word, I will guarantee you that it will not be long until your prayer life begins to lack desire and you will not hunger and thirst after righteousness. Remember Jesus' Words in John 17:17: "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." The word "sanctify" means "to make holy, purify, or consecrate." God's Word will make you more holy, i.e. more like Christ.

Ponder the thought and its implication. If someone does not want to study and meditate on God's Word, they are in effect saying that they do not want to grow more like Jesus Christ. Do you see why this is a path to spiritual suicide? Yet from the other day, we saw that the statistics on Bible reading tell us that at best 53% of people who profess to be born again don't read their Bibles. What is the answer?

The answer is we must proclaim the necessity and importance of obeying God. This is not an option; it is a command. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Of this verse Adam Clarke said: "Endeavour so to cultivate and improve thy heart and mind, that thou mayest not be a reproach to him from whom thou professest to receive thy commission."

Do you want to be a reproach to Jesus Christ or do you want to be a praise to His Name? The choice is before you today. Read, study, meditate, speak, confess and live His Word. You will be glad you did and so will He!
