Day 84

You need to get it fixed in your mind that the Bible was meant to be a practical down-to-earth Word from God. While there are some parts that can be difficult and require much study to comprehend, the simplicity of God's plan of redemption through Jesus Christ can be understood without difficulty. Ever since Adam and Eve's fall into sin in the Garden of Eden, God's plan to redeem us (that is "buy us back") has been in operation. The plan of redemption was a plan based on God's love for His creatures (that is you and me).

God's Word is to be our source of liberty. Too many see the Bible as placing restrictions on their lives that interfere with their personal freedoms. Ever been on a road and coming to a dangerous turn there is a sign that tells you to slow down because it would not be safe to continue at a regular speed? Is the sign imposing a restriction or is the sign trying to keep you safe so you can enjoy the rest of your trip? The sign is there to warn and protect you. The sign is designed to give you liberty and not restrict you. It has been placed there by someone connected with the highway department of the state because they know the roads better than you. In the same way, God knows what is best for you. To drive down life without reading and studying the Word would be like driving down the road and ignoring the stop lights, traffic signs and other drivers. It would be a mess; you would likely receive a ticket from the police, get in an accident, or wreck your car.

So why do people neglect Bible study? They don't see the relevance of the Word to their lives. They would prefer to drive with a few general principles gathered from a few passages, or a few sermons and then they wonder why things don't go as well as they should. Today, I encourage and exhort you to study the Word so that your trip through life will be blessed and the travel safe. Happy driving!
