Day 79

By meditating and dwelling on the Word (Joshua 1:8), you will overcome troubles because Jesus overcame them (John 16:33). By using His Words and living the way He did, you will overcome like He did. When you go outside in the rain, you carry an umbrella. That umbrella when opened and held over your head will keep the raindrops from getting you wet. In the same way, you are protected from tribulations when you apply the Word to the situation like the opened umbrella. The Bible does you little good if it is never opened. The umbrella doesn't do much good if you wait until you are soaked to open it. It works best when you are ready by carrying it with you if the weather looks like rain. It is the same with the Word. In one sense, it can rain on you any day without warning so you want to always carry your spiritual umbrella with you.

By speaking and confessing the Word, you can get to a place of numbness. Let me explain. This does not mean that you don't care or that you cannot be emotional on issues. It means you can get so sure of the Word's truth that you are not fazed by any rain storm that tries to get you wet with tribulation. You go beyond feelings to an assurance of God's working in your situation and that He is in control. Confidence in the Word will cause you to meditate on it which will further cause you to overcome tribulations when they come.

Today, open your spiritual umbrella and carry it with you wherever you go. It might rain and you want to be ready for it.
