Day 92

We are continuing today to look at 2 Corinthians 13:5, "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" Now, we focus on the phrase "Know ye not your own selves." Of this verse the People's New Testament Commentary said: "Christ must dwell in them unless they are reprobate. If Christ is in them it will be seen in the power of a Christian life."

If you are in Jesus Christ, then there will be seen His influence in your life. Adam Clarke the British theologian from the 18Th Century said: "And is it not as easy to find out a spurious faith as it is to detect a base coin? There is an assay and touchstone for both. If base metal be mixed with the pure you can readily detect it; and as easily may you know that you are in the faith as you can know that base metal is mixed with the pure." Just as counterfeit money is easily discoverable, so is a false faith. What happens in times of stress? What is your belief and character when things don't go as planned? So many folks come under the heading of a "fair weathered Christian." This means that they only act Christian when the day is clear of problems. However, as soon as the bad weather comes, i.e. things don't go right, they reveal their true character. The problem is that there is no such thing as a "fair weather Christian." The true believer reads his Bible, studies it and prays regardless of the circumstances that surrounds his or her daily life. Why do they continue doing the commands of God? Because they are proving themselves as this verse commands!

Today, go back to the first part of the verse and examine yourself. This is most important; it is not about the wonder plan for your life or your best life now; it is about making sure you are in the faith and you are in right relationship with the Creator.
