Day 134

We are continuing to look at Romans 8:13: "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." We want to understand how the Holy Spirit helps us to kill those practices of the body that will take us from God. Yesterday we saw that the Holy Spirit puts grace into our hearts that is contrary to the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21). Today, we learn that Holy Spirit destroys the root and habit of sin.

He does so by weakening, destroying and taking away evil desires. Think about your life since becoming a Christian. Are there not practices that you used to do without a second thought that the mere mention of them now repulses you? How do you think that that inward transformation took place? Do you think you just grew out of them or turned over a new leaf? No; the changes were not made by you. The Holy Spirit killed your desire for those things and you in obedience hate them now to.

It is so very important to give credit where credit is do. Too many Christians think that they are the reason that they live more holy lives than before. This is an offense against the Holy Spirit. He has done the work and He deserves all the glory. It is not by your works, it is by grace.Today thank Him for the work He has done in your life and ask Him to continue perfecting you. There is plenty to do as you will never be perfect in experience in this life; there will always be something to improve and to learn. Aren't you glad that our merciful God is still working on you and didn't give up on you?
